According to recent figures, Pakistan already has more than 34 million online gamers, and this number is expected to reach 45 million by 2025. This growth is significant, especially when you consider that just a few years ago mobile gaming was far less mainstream. Today, many young people in cities and smaller towns play games daily on their phones, making mobile the dominant platform in the country’s gaming landscape.
The interest in mobile gaming in Pakistan reflects broader global trends. Around the world, the video game market was valued at approximately $227.6 billion, with expectations to grow even further. When combined with animation and graphics, this broader digital entertainment industry could exceed $1 trillion by 2030. Much of this expansion is driven by mobile games, which made up over half of the global gaming market in recent years because of their accessibility and widespread smartphone use.
Mobile games dominate the local market for several reasons:
Reports show that 60% of Pakistani gamers play on mobile devices, while around 30% prefer PCs and just 10% stick to consoles. This clearly shows how phone gaming leads the way.
The gaming, animation, and graphics sector in Pakistan is not only entertaining users, it’s also creating jobs and revenue. A recent industry report says the sector generated approximately $300 million in revenue, with exports of nearly $158 million. There are over 250 companies operating in this space, employing more than 12,000 people.
To support this growth, the Pakistani government has launched initiatives like the Centre of Excellence in Gaming and Animation (CEGA). With a budget of Rs2.5 billion, CEGA will be based in Karachi and Lahore and aims to train thousands of developers and animators over the next five years. This kind of support could help Pakistan produce more local games for both domestic and international markets.
With millions of gamers and increasing investment in tech infrastructure, Pakistan’s mobile gaming market is on a strong upward trajectory. The combination of a large youth population, expanding digital skills, and government support sets the stage for even bigger growth in the coming years.
